Faktor Rothe’s summerhouse stands outside the smaller of the two gates leading into the site and next to the water supply channel. It was built for his personal pleasure in 1621.
The ceiling inside is decorated with baroque medallions. These bible quotations reflect the spirit of the times, and the little garden house gave pause for both piety and joy.
- Sirach 32: Do not interrupt the music. Where there is entertainment, do not pour out talk; do not display your cleverness at the wrong time. A ruby seal in a setting of gold is a concert of music at a banquet of wine. A seal of emerald in a rich setting of gold is the melody of music with good wine.
- Psalm 84: How lovely is your dwelling place, O Lord of hosts! My soul longs, indeed it faints for the courts of the Lord. My heart and my flesh sing for joy to the living God.
- Psalm 84, 5-6: Happy are those who live in your house, ever singing your praise. Selah. Happy are those whose strength is in you, in whose heart are the highways to Zion.
- Completed on 6 October 1621 by Factor Rodt, restored in 1854 by Mayor Hering, renovated in 1910 by Sächsische Kupfer- und Messingwerke F. A. Lange (note, this is the 4th inscription)
This work of art has been preserved over the centuries through a series of restorations.
In 1935, Karl Koch owned the property and the summerhouse was used for storage. After 1945, the Olbernhau Town Council became the legal owner. The LPG Hugo Franz, agricultural production cooperative, later renamed LPG Einheit, took over the plot in 1955. Ten years later, the Drei Tannen Olbernhau horticultural production cooperative took possession of the garden and the summerhouse and used it as a materials store.
In 1997, the town of Olbernhau bought the section of plot containing the summerhouse.
Since restoration work was completed in 2002, this attraction is once again open to the public on special occasions.
